1) I've been doing a great job of not studying for my Judaism final. Well, that's not entirely true: I've gotten my notes together and marked the ones that apply to the test, but I haven't actually... made my study sheet or anything. I just haven't had the motivation/been too tired. Why on earth is finals scheduled during my period, seriously. Tomorrow I guess I'll head down to the library and just lock myself down there until I finish the study sheet.
2) Via F_W, I discovered another reason I don't actually exist.

I got the Amatsuki artbook and volume 7 today! The artbook is absolutely amazing and has a lot of images I hadn't seen before, as well as better versions of ones I'd only seen in bad-quality photographs of telephone cards on Y!J. Volume 7, meanwhile, has a lot of plot stuff, as well as... a picture of Takayama's cat wearing an afro.
Oh, Takayama.
I also did a bit of translation of part of Chapter 37, which I hadn't seen before. Now with added speculation.

Hilarity.
I have a widget (iStat) that I got to monitor what's up with my computer, since sometimes it does crazy things. Since I'm avoiding studying for my Psych final, I decided to stare at it for a while. Which is when I noticed the section labeled "Battery Health." This section is, and I quote, "a comparison between your current battery capacity and capacity of it when it was new. For example, if your battery lasted 5 hours when it was new, a figure of 50% suggests you should get 2.5 hours out of your battery now."
Mine's at 17%.
I GET THE POINT, ALREADY. I NEED A NEW BATTERY.

Ureshii, I love you for subbing Amatsuki, I really do. But translating "傷つける側の人間" as "He's someone who likes hurting people" really isn't going to help with the "ZOMG BONTEN IS TTTLY A VILLAIN!" crowd.

I checked out a copy of The Pillow Book of Sei Shonagon from work today, and am skimming through the numerous appendices. They're all quite interesting, but perhaps unsurprisingly, I found the timeline most amusing.
999 CE
Second Month, Ninth Day: Fujiwara no Akiko, Michinaga's daughter, celebrated her coming-of-age ceremony at the age of eleven and was appointed to the 3rd rank.
Sixth Month, Fourteenth Day: The Imperial Palace burnt down.
Eleventh Month, First Day: Fujiwara no Akiko entered the Palace.
Note the incongruity between SO's timeline and the historical timeline-- according to SO, the palace should have burned several months before Akiko's coming-of-age ceremony.

I love Takayama Shinobu. Someone asked her about Tsuyukusa's hair color, since it seems to change in each of the color illustrations. Her response: "They made me decide on Tsuyukusa's hair color for the anime, so if you go by that, it should be okay."
... "they made me decide."
She's so cute.

I woke up feeling a little bitchy today :(
DEAR AMATSUKI FANDOM: Kuchiha is not Toki's beard. No, seriously. I know Takayama gives lots of evidence for Toki/Kon. She also gives lots of evidence for Kuchiha/Kon and Toki/Kuchiha. Do you have any idea how rare it is to have three main characters interested in each other, especially without a love triangle setup? It's amazing, and if you're going to be ignoring that fact, at least admit it's because you only like the buttsex. Don't claim Takayama only put Kuchiha in the manga to cover things up so that only the true believers can see that it's really all about the Toki/Kon. That just makes you sound ridiculous and tinhat-y. Kuchiha is an amazing character, so please don't write her off just because she, gasp, has a vagina.
Also: it's not all about the pairings, believe it or not. There's, you know, a plot, too.
DEAR BLACK BUTLER FANDOM: Look, I know at least one of you has this month's issue of G-Fantasy, because you've said as much. Would it kill you to scan it for the rest of us who don't get a subscription/don't have Japanese bookstores in the state? I know you don't have an obligation to do so or anything, but we'd all appreciate it greatly.
Thank you.
EDIT:I have to run out to do my Psych extra credit, but oh man you guys please keep up the awesome discussions that are going on in this post. ♥ I am loving it. Back! You guys are amazing.

My final project for my Story of the Stone class is going to be a paper on how Barry Hughart's novel of the same title adapts and pays homage to Cao Xuequin's novel. Which it does! But it also does things like this, which are amazingly more hilarious now that I've read the original:
"Believe it or not, there's a point to this, but be patient," he said. "Am I correct in assuming that every one of you gave up on Dream of the Red Chamber after the first two paragraphs?"
Grief of Dawn and Moon Boy and I turned red. The problem with "the crown jewel of Chinese literature" is that it has two thousand pages and an equal number of characters, and the hero is an effeminate ass who should have either been spanked or decapitated, both ends being equally objectionable.
Needless to say, I LOL'd.
